Mr. Chris Leggett joins Raider Nation as senior teacher for special education after serving the Hanover County Online School in the same capacity.
Mr. Leggett grew up in South Western Pennsylvania and received undergraduate degrees from California University of Pennsylvania in special and elementary education. In 2001, he moved to Virginia and began teaching in Lancaster County. He later moved on to teach in Spotsylvania and Caroline Counties where he also coached wrestling and cross country. He also earned his master’s degree in administration and supervision during this time.
Prior to his move to Hanover in 2021, he worked for Henrico County as a special education teacher, critical response teacher, and department chair. In 2020, he was named the Christie Award winner at Moody Middle School, which recognizes outstanding special education teachers within Henrico County. Since February of 2021, Mr. Leggett has served as the special education senior teacher for the Hanover County Online School.
Mr. Leggett moved to Hanover County with his family in 2012 with his wife, Kristina, son, Reece, and daughter, Brooke, who are all part of the HCPS family. Kristina is a teacher at THCTT and the jail education coordinator at PRJ. Reece is a sophomore here at Atlee, and Brooke is a seventh grader at CMS.
Outside of work, Mr. Leggett enjoys attending his children’s wrestling and volleyball matches; watching the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins; and outdoor activities including biking, playing pickleball, and boating at Lake Anna.
