This year, five Atlee students were chosen by the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) for their outstanding leadership, exceptional academic history, and forward-thinking ability, distinguishing them as remarkable young women. Having multiple first pllace winners several years in a row is rare, and having five awardees this year (and seven last year) is potentially the highest number of winners in a public non-magnet/non-governors/non-specialty center school for the state of Virginia! This year’s winners are:

  • Emily Halferty (12th Grade) - 2020 Virginia Affiliate Winner of the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing (1st place). Emily won the 2019 Virginia Affiliate Honorable Mention of the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing last year.
  • Hayley Davis (11th Grade) - 2020 Virginia Affiliate Winner of the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing (1st place).
  • Ashley Whitehouse (11th Grade) - 2020 Virginia Affiliate Honorable Mention of the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing.
  • Meredith James (11th Grade) - 2020 Virginia Affiliate Honorable Mention of the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing. Meredith won the 2019 Rising Star winner last year.
  • Elle Hogg (10th Grade) - 2020 Virginia Rising Star winner. This category was created to recognize younger students who are getting started in the computer and technology field and to encourage them to continue pursuing their aspirations in this field.
