The Specialty Center at Hanover High School offers the Health Sciences Program as well as STEM, Public Safety, and Health Sciences electives to all Hanover County high school students. Health Sciences Program

The Health Sciences Program is a four-year pathway designed for students pursuing careers in health sciences or medical fields. Students accepted into this program will become full-time Hanover High School students, and their schedules will be designed to maximize their exposure to curriculum and skills that are necessary for medical careers. View the current bus schedule. Students will take specialty health sciences courses, and many of their core classes will be supplemented with health sciences material.health sciences students 

Freshman and Sophomore Years in the Program

During their freshman and sophomore years, students in the health sciences program will be enrolled in core classes that will be enhanced with health sciences objectives and skills. Health/PE 9, biology, chemistry, and Modern Global Studies courses are designed to give students additional opportunities to tie their learning to real-world application in medical careers. Ninth and tenth-grade students in the program will also take Introduction to Health and Medical Sciences and Medical Terminology. These introductory health sciences courses are designed to prepare students for courses they will take in their junior and senior years.

Junior and Senior Years in the Program

During their junior and senior years in the health sciences program, students will take the following health sciences enhanced core courses: Chemistry and English 11.

During their final two years of the program, students will take their specialized health sciences pathway courses.

Specialty Center Electives

The Specialty Center at Hanover High School offers stand-alone elective courses to all Hanover County high school students. Students do not need to be enrolled full time at Hanover High School to register for these courses. When you speak with your counselor during the registration process, express your interest in the electives, and you can make a course request for your schedule.

Application Procedure

Contact your school counselor if you wish to apply for acceptance into the Health Sciences Specialty Center, or if you want to sign up for one of the Specialty Center Electives.
