The Hanover County School Board does not collect any information from users of this website, including personally identifiable information. Hanover County Public Schools Section 504 Procedural Safeguards

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504) protects the rights of students with disabilities: qualified students who have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. "Major life activities" means functions such as caring for oneself, performing manual tasks, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning, and working. This is not an inclusive list of major activities, however.

Hanover County Public Schools has a system of procedural safeguards in place with respect to actions regarding the identification, evaluation, or educational placement of students with disabilities. As parent or guardian –

  1. You have the right to receive notice of any proposed actions related to the identification, evaluation, or educational placement of your child.
  2. You have the right to examine all relevant records of your child.
  3. You have the right to an impartial hearing, with opportunity for participation by you and representation by counsel, to resolve disagreements concerning the identification, evaluation, or educational placement of your child.
  4. You have the right to a review of an impartial hearing officer’s final decision if you disagree with that decision.

Title IX

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 ("Title IX"), 20 U.S.C. § 1691 et seq., is a Federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs and activities. All public and private elementary and secondary schools, school districts, colleges, and universities (hereinafter "schools") receiving any Federal funds must comply with Title IX. Under Title IX, discrimination on the basis of sex can include sexual harassment or sexual violence, such as rape, sexual assault, sexual battery, and sexual coercion.
