Mr. Brian Canady

Brian CanadyMr. Brian Canady comes to Raider Nation as assistant principal this year after serving Mechanicsville High School in the same capacity for the past 10 years.

Mr. Canady grew up in North Carolina and received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in secondary mathematics education. For 10 years, Mr. Canady taught math in the Wake County Public School System in North Carolina. While teaching in Wake County, he obtained a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from North Carolina State University.

After moving to Richmond in 2005, he began teaching at Mechanicsville High School (MHS) during which time he obtained another master’s degree in educational leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University. He taught math courses ranging from Algebra I to AP Statistics. During his time as a teacher at MHS he also served as the math department chair and senior teacher before making a transition to assistant principal in 2013 at MHS.

In 2012, he was selected as the National AP Math Teacher of the Year for his work as an AP Statistics teacher during the 2011–2012 school year.

Mr. Canady’s interests outside of work include traveling, having game nights with friends, and pulling for the Tar Heels.
