Band Home

The Atlee High School Band program consists of many performing ensembles including the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Marching Raiders.

We are dedicated to instilling a quality music education to all students while providing performances of the highest caliber to audiences in the Greater Richmond Area.

Band playing on football field

The Atlee High School Band program has a rich history of success. It is a 17-time Commonwealth of Virginia Honor Band and continues to be one of the most visual aspects of Atlee High School. The Marching Raiders travel to all football games and select competitions and represent the Atlee community with pride.

Students enrolled in the band program at Atlee can also take AP Music Theory for further musical enrichment. We also encourage our band students to participate in musical activities outside the school. Members of the band program currently participate in the Greater Richmond Youth Wind Ensemble, The Greater Richmond Youth Symphony Orchestra, District Band, All Virginia Band and Orchestra, Senior Regional Orchestra, and The Central Virginia Wind Symphony.

We are a family that is student-centered and success driven with the goal of developing responsible citizens to meet the challenges of change.

Why Should I Join Band?

Dear Atlee Band Families,

Participation in band develops students in ways other classes do not. Band students tend to organize their time more effectively while maintaining a high academic standard. Leadership skills are explored, cultivated, and culminated in the band program. Band also develops character and life skills that students can take with them to college and beyond.

Students benefit in any transitional period (middle school to high school, high school to college) when they are a part of a group activity. Marching arts and specifically marching band offers students the opportunity to perform music in a mixed ensemble. Sports while an important part of education and the overall high school experience cannot allow all members of the team to play at one time. Students who participate in marching band play all the time, and each member is an integral part of the big picture.

We receive testimonials from many parents each year. The following is an e-mail from a band parent:

Mr. Rozecki,

I just want to write a quick note of thanks. Marching band has allowed my child to find a niche in his high school experience. At first, he thought he wouldn’t be able to perform because everyone is on a different level musically, but once band camp started, he realized he could reach his goals. The positive support from the band staff, student leadership, and his friends were incredible. Not only did he learn how to march and play his instrument, but he made many new friends and learned new skills he did not previously possess. Thank you for encouraging my child through marching band. You will have him all four years!

From a parent standpoint, you won’t find a better family for your child while he/she is away from his/her real family!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Rozecki.
