In academics, Atlee High School was a recipient of the 2018 Board of Education Distinguished Achievement award for advanced learning and achievement as part of the annual Virginia Index of Performance awards. Designated as the first IB World School in Hanover County, Atlee had 22 students receive an IB diploma in 2018. State SOL scores in 2018 include the following:

The class of 2018 received an impressive $4.3 million in scholarships.
The Atlee World Language Department had four students accepted into the 2018 Governor’s School Foreign Language Academies. The art department had multiple recognitions in the 2018 scholastic art and writing awards capturing two gold awards, nine silver awards, and six honorable mentions. The Turf Science Program has received recognition from the National Sports Turf Managers Association for the schools/parks field of the year four times (2006, football field; 2009, softball field; 2010, soccer field; 2016, lacrosse sporting grounds).
In extra-curricular activities last year, the Atlee High School archery team captured their seventh consecutive state championship. Atlee's band program received designation as a Virginia honor band for the ninth consecutive year for the seventeenth time in school history. In FFA, the agricultural sales team finished eighth in the country, the forestry team finished seventh in country, while the junior agriculture mechanics team and the soils/land judging team both finished first in the state. For the first time in school history, the Atlee robotics team qualified and participated in the World Competition in Detroit. The Skills USA team captured third place at the Virginia State Competition in the Broadcast News Division, and DECA had 23 state finalists, including two top 20 placements in International Competition. The Atlee math team finished 14th out of 71 in the state of Virginia.
In the 2017–2018 school year, we had three athletics teams crowned regional champions (girls volleyball, girls lacrosse, and boys lacrosse), seven individual student athletes captured individual regional championships (two in wrestling, girls cross country, boys indoor track, boys indoor pole vault), and five individuals won state championships (wrestling, two in indoor track, and two in spring track). Furthermore, Atlee High School had 26 student athletes sign to play at the collegiate level for the 2018–2019 academic year.

Atlee opened its doors in 1991. Notable alumni include Kevin Grubb (NASCAR driver), Wayne Grubb (NASCAR crew chief, former driver), Billy Parker (New York Dragons (AFL) defensive specialist), and Zuriel Smith (Dallas Cowboys wide receiver/return specialist).
